This week I have been working around Iloilo City in the Philippines. I have spent a lot of time in a 4wd driving between community focus groups. Every road seems a work in progress, so the driving is slow, allowing plenty of time for contemplation and to sing along with Ed Sherren’s “Thinking Out Loud” (the new Philippines national anthem), and an entire Air Supply album (I offered to give the driver access to some more recent love songs on my computer and he just laughed nervously). I have met many wonderful people, still putting their lives back together and getting on with things 15 months after Typhoon Haiyan stormed through here and pulled everything apart. In terms of photography I have been busy asking the questions in the meetings, so have had to be content with having my camera on my lap in the car. And now I have a gallery of road trip pictures to share! I love the polite road signs apologizing for the inconvenience of the road works.
Photo resolution is low, as otherwise I couldn’t upload these pictures on the cellar pocket wifi that I have been loaned – but you will get the dusty atmosphere at any resolution. All were taken through the windscreen, and several using the headlights as an additional lighting source after the sun set – let’s not talk about pedicabs and motorbikes without lights still on the road at night here shall we!
Happy Travels…
